Tour through the National Park

Your adventure begins with a comfortable south tour of the legendary Avenida de los Volcanos. As Quito is left behind, the landscape opens to wide Andean valleys framed by steep mountain peaks.

The transition is shocking. The urban landscape quickly gives way to the golden plains of the saw and to the pure air of the mountain. With every kilometer, the imposing silhouette of the Cotopaxi grows on the horizon, increasing the expectation for what comes.

With 5,897 meters in height, the Cotopaxi is one of the highest active volcanoes on the planet and one of the most perfectly formed volcanic cones in the world.

On clear days, the snowy summit dominates the horizon and offers one of the most emblematic views of continental Ecuador. For many travelers, this first panoramic view becomes the decisive moment of the entire tour.

One of the most memorable stops within the park is the Liminopungo lagoon, a serene lake of height located in the lower skirts of the volcano.

Here you will have time to walk the shore, breathe the pure Andean air and take spectacular photographs. When climate conditions allow, the lagoon beautifully reflects the volcano, creating one of Ecuador's most photogenic scenes.

The Cotopaxi National Park is also an important refuge for the Altoandina fauna. As you explore the area, you could find wild horses grazing in the plains, native species of birds near the lagoon and a unique moor vegetation, adapted to the extreme altitude.

The wide open spaces and the quiet environment create a powerful sense of connection with nature.

Depending on the climate and the itinerary, some tours include the possibility of rising higher on the slopes of the Cotopaxi.
